HOW TO THINK AS AN ARTIST IN THE AGE OF AI?
AI simply isn't something that should be incorporated into art making.

For intentional implications? Sure. But there is no reason for an artist to be confiding in AI for something that's meant to convey personal expression and growth. Why should anyone or anything else create your art other than yourself?

There are arguments saying AI is the path to making art more accessible. People who say that have no understanding of what art is. Making art is an ability that requires practice, just like any other skill that we have learned in our lives. Skill level is also not necessary for making good art. There is more than one way to deliver a message, there is more than one way to convey an idea.

When you're asking AI for suggestions and generated visuals, it's an active plagiarism towards people that the system has studied from online. It's vastly different from doing the research yourself and choosing resources that you personally connect with and find inspiration in with reason. The process of making the art is a part of the art.

?
Use with intention. If you decide to resort in using AI, make it a part of the narrative that you want your art to tell. Otherwise, there are always better resources to consider.

Even if it's just for feedback, there is no need for AI to take part. Ultimately, your audience is human. AI is trained to only give you responces that you ask for, ones that it thinks you want the most. Whether it be praise or criticism, AI doesn't have the emotional capacity to give you a raw reaction of how it feels about your art. It's trained to be statistically analytical, it's trained to be based off of an algorithm.

When it comes to finding resources and doing research, I understand the conveniance that AI brings. I do think it could be a useful tool for a simple start off, because I also believe that solely relying on AI limits the deph that comes from engaging with primary sources and human scholarship directly.

AI has proved to be revolutionary in so many aspects of our lives. It has improved efficiency, reduced human error, and much more. These benefits serve greatly for research and analysis. They've helped increase conveniance and reliability in STEM work.

Art is not meant to be conveniant.

There is no need for efficiency when it comes to art.

Human error is welcomed in art.

Art has always been deeply enangled with human history, context, and struggle. An algorithm can not authentically replicate that.
